Books
Children of Time
Spiders!
Lords of Uncreation
A fun finish, even if some of the mysteries weren’t incredibly satisfying. I’m sold on reading more of Tchaikovsky’s SF.
Eyes of the Void
Returned to the trilogy after two years away. I’m impressed by the characterization and interesting galactic world-building. In a way it reminds me of the culture series.
Scattered All Over the Earth
A strange story to start a trilogy. I’m not sure how a country could so self-isolate as to disappear completely metaphorically and physically, but as a meditation on the anxiety of the Japanese regarding assimilation and westernization, it works.
The Wax Child
Olga delivering a truly strange imagining of the events surrounding the murder of many women in 17th century Denmark for “witchcraft”.
Walking Practice
What if gender but alien?!
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Continuing my goal of reading all Le Carre’s with a classic banger.
Movies
Project Hail Mary
Entirely too cutesy, BUT it was also funny, entertaining, and made me laugh.
Send Help
Castaway but weirder and wilder.
War Machine
Schlock, but still fun.
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die
A mess but mostly ok.
Cold Storage
Serviceable with kinda fun set pieces.
The Housemaid
Absolutely bizarre but predictable. So many very abusive partners out there but they’re not clever, the world just hates women.
Return to Silent Hill
Even by video game standards this was baaaad
